The Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (IRB) is currently looking for interpreters at its Western office
(Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, and Winnipeg).
Interpreters provide interpretation services as an independent contractor as and when needed by the IRB. Your task as an interpreter is to interpret all dialogue during the proceedings. You will have to interpret the language of the person who is subject of the proceedings into English or French and vice-versa, using consecutive interpretation.
Hourly rate: $50/hour
The following languages/dialects are urgently needed:
- Arabic (Chad)
- Creole
- Dinka
- Edo
- French
- Hausa
- Igbo
- Kinyarwanda
- Kirundi
- Kiswahili
- Luganda, Ganda
- Mende
- Pahari
- Pashto
- Singhalese
- Somali
- Soninke
- Spanish to French
- Tagalog
- Thai
- Turkish
- Twi
The Western Region are also in regular need of Interpreters fluent in the following languages/dialects
To be considered, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
- have a secondary school diploma or equivalent
- have professional references (minimum of 2)
- comply with the rules that are set out in the Code of Conduct for Interpreters

Various evaluations (interpretation abilities, sight translation and official languages) will be administered by the IRB.
