The following summary of referrals of alleged breaches of professional conduct has been published in accordance with the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada's (IRB)
Policy on Disclosing Information Regarding the Conduct of Authorized Representatives to Regulatory Bodies and associated procedures.
- Between April 1, 2022, and March 31, 2023, there were a total of 22 alleged breaches of professional conduct by counsel reported at the
IRB.
- Of the 22 alleged breaches:
- 16 related to lawyers or individuals claiming membership in a provincial bar association and 6 related to regulated Canadian immigration consultants
- 19 involved counsel in the
IRB's Eastern region, 2 involved counsel in the
IRB's Central region, and 1 involved counsel in the
IRB's Western region
- The
IRB referred 15 to the appropriate regulator, that is the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants or the responsible law society
- The
IRB did not refer 6 alleged breaches to a regulator and the referral decision for 1 alleged breach remained outstanding at the end of the reporting period
