The Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (IRB) is pleased to announce the publication of its
Second Annual Report on Complaints. The Report reflects our commitment to increase both transparency and accountability in our public reporting on member complaints, and thereby enhance public confidence in the work of the IRB.
Covering the period between January 1, 2019 and December 31, 2019, this Report provides an overview of recent measures introduced to strengthen the IRB complaints process, along with detailed summaries of complaints received and finalized by the Board’s Office of Integrity. In this period, during which some 400 decision-makers rendered approximately 72,500 decisions across the Board’s four Divisions, the Office of Integrity received 23 complaints and 20 were finalized.
As part of our ongoing efforts to improve our procedures, the Board has also commissioned a third-party to review and make recommendations on our
Procedures for Making a Complaint about a Member. At this time, the review is in the early stages. Additional information concerning this important initiative will be shared as it becomes available.
