Beginning the first week of July 2019, the Refugee Appeal Division (RAD) will change how it processes appeals.
Oldest appeals
Half (50%) of RAD capacity will be assigned to the oldest appeals waiting for decision. This will ensure that about 80% of RAD appeals will be completed within one year of the appeal. Few if any appeals will take longer than 16 months to finalize.
Newest appeals
The other 50% of RAD capacity will be assigned to new appeals that will be completed within 90 days.
Impact on appellants
You do not need to do anything differently as a result of this change.
The time you can expect to wait for a decision will vary, with some appeals taking three months while most others will take between 4 and 12 months.
These expectations are based on the number of members appointed to the Division.
